Quantitative  Literacy - Math 1010 - Intermediate Algebra

Math was one of my favorite subjects while in High School.  I placed Math 1010 in my first semester back (Fall 2012) to get it "out of the way" as a prerequisite for my major requirement Math 1040 (Currently waitlisted for Spring 2013).  In the interest of full disclosure when I took the Accuplacer test to determine my placement upon returning to school after an absence of 10 years, I was ecstatic that I tested into 1010 and would be receiving credit for math classes right off the bat.

Obviously I was a little nervous going in as there were lots of concepts I had forgotten due to lack of use.  I look forward to relearning those skills and discovering new ways of using math in my daily scholastic and professional life.

 Reflection:

Ah Math 1010.  I remember bits of my high school experience with Algebra, I was good at it and it was one of my favorite subjects.  I also seem to recall coming out of class wondering when on earth I was ever going to need to know the concepts, formulas and mathematical formulas I was learning then.  These two projects posted above are real world applications of some of the concepts I relearned in Math 1010.  I am very please to also say that while these projects were fairly early on in the class the content not shown, such as quadratic equations and exponential graphing, have also been demonstrated to me in real world applications.  While I do not know that I will use them in my professional career I do have some hobbies, like wood working and DIY home improvement that I know with out a doubt this knowledge will be very helpful with.
